SIU-E and the Eugene B. Redmond Writers Club will celebrate the 40th Anniversary of the Black Arts Movement with concerts, exhibits, panels, performances, poetry readings and workshops Oct. 24-28, including poet Amiri Baraka (Oct. 24); Brooklyn (IL) native and co-founder of the World Saxophone Quartet Hamiet Bluiett (Oct. 25); poet Jayne Cortez, performing with Firespitters band (Oct. 26/27); poet Haki R. Madhubuti (Oct. 27); and ESL native and doyenne of modern dance Katherine Dunham (Oct. 28). Events will be held at Southern Illinois University and selected sites in the Metro East.
