I was flipping channels before I rolled to the club Saturday night, and who did I see but my boy Cedric The Entertainer following First Lady Laura Bush at the dang podium for the White House Correspondents’ Association Dinner in D.C.? Whoa.

Ced had a tough gig. You got to think he didn’t want to brown-nose this ridiculous president, but a nice guy like Ced wouldn’t want to be a bad guest and totally trash the dude either. I say he did a good job of being warm and funny while bringing up subjects – like blacks not wanting to be in the military and not liking Bush – that had George W. on the edge of his butt.

Ced clowned on Condoleezza Rice, doing a bit about “Condi” being the professional boss type and “Dileezza” her sister-girl altar ego who is all street, watches BET and thinks Usher is cute. You don’t have to like her role in W’s death machine to appreciate seeing a black woman who makes her way in that cold world warmed up by a big-hearted brother.

Our boy’s best routine? A bit on how the Vatican considered a black pope for a minute before picking “a Hitler.” Ced went on about the problems a black pope would have created, like the Vatican appearing on MTV Cribs or the Popemobile getting the Pimp My Ride treatment. I lost it!
