I’m looking at a review of Ebony Eyez’s new CD in the Post, but I’m not seeing a preview CD in my hot little hand. I’m also looking at a story about girlfriend that ran in this very newspaper before anybody else in town knew you could spell “eyes” like E-Y-E-Z. Fact, I was there when Ebony first saw the def spelling on her first promotional T-shirt.
Walk all over us, kick us to the curb, whatever, we still got to do our job over heRRe. Ebony’s big debutante week started with an exclusive event at the Chase Park Plaza on Monday. Her signing at Vintage Vinyl on Tuesday proved to many that she is a local entertainer making national noise. Celebrities came out to support her and to cop Seven Day Cycle. I peeped DJ Kaos, Orlando “Pretty Boy” Watson, Alice “Who am I gonna bust big next?” Prince, Chingy, King Jacob, freestyle king D-Mac, D-St. Lou (Deandre Perryman).
Girlfriend remembered somebody who was there for her early. During her signing, she gave it up to Kaos for supporting her. She said he was the first deejay to support her and she will never forget him. Good job, Kaos – and that’s coming from one she did forget.
But it ain’t about me, it’s about the music, and this girl is hot. The album release party was off the chain at Toxic on Tuesday. It seems like everybody in the Lou came out to support Ebony – or did they come ‘cause it was free? The Trackboyz sure know how to throw a party – or should I say The Trackboy? What happened, Capo and Tar Boy, can’t ya’ll work it out? “Creative differences,” they say. I hear it was more “differences” than “creative” in this breakdown. I’m willing to bet it’s that Tarboy.
Well anyway, we all had a good time. The All Stars, as always, showed support for an artist in the Lou and rocked the stage first. Ebony came out about 1 a.m. and represented! My girl threw down. St. Louis, Ebony Eyez owned the stage. Even those of us y’all forgot have to remember somebody so good as you.
