This weekend, the buzz around Halo Salon and Spa will include more than the fierce styles and new hair trends they offer their clientele on a daily basis.

“We’ve been in business two years, and we’d been trying to figure out an event to do to give back,” said Hope Lynn, owner of Halo Salon & Spa.

At just 28, Lynn already has the foresight to bridge the gaps between the style community and small businesses for a worthy cause as she moves forward to expand her own establishment.

Because of Lynn’s encouragement, make-up artist Natalie Harrison can take credit for having St. Louis’ only lash-exclusive salon – which is housed within Halo. As Halo celebrates the second anniversary, Halo Salon & Spa and the Lash Loft are using their mutual space and shared vision to invite the entire city downtown for a good time and a good cause.

Tomorrow night (Friday, Sept. 5) starting at 6 p.m., The Lash Loft and Halo Salon & Spa will host the inaugural Fashion Show & Block Party outside of Halo (at the corner of 9th and Locust Street) in Downtown St. Louis. The fashion show will feature the talents of Alicia M., a stylist at Halo Salon & Spa, plus local fashion designers. Along with Alicia, the styles of Dzoay, Raw Blends Fashions, Diamond Fashions, Catwalk Fashions, Figure 8, Patches Clothing and Re’DiDz will make appearances on the runway.

“Guests will have a lot of fun entertainment, get fall fashion ideas going and dancing,” Harrison said.

Following the fashion show, there will be a Block Party allowing Downtown businesses to network and showcase their wares, with 15 vendors on site selling clothing and products and services. The Sylver Spoon Restaurant will feature Red the Barbecue man.

Entertainment by Bradd Young, West Side Missionary Baptist Church Mime Ministry and Enoch is Real on the ones and twos will cap off the night as Friday transitions into a full-fledged block party from 8-10 p.m. with food, dancing and fun.

The party will continue on Saturday as they transform the Salon into an exclusive upscale club for the night, with a Red Carpet Birthday Celebration for Harrison and Alicia M. featuring entertainment by Coco Soul from 7 p.m. – midnight.

“We are turning the salon into ‘Club Halo,’” said Harrison.

As they were pulling the weekend together, Halo and the Lash Loft considered those in need. “We wanted to start an annual fundraiser giving back to the community,” Harrison said.

Proceeds from Rock The Runway will benefit Voices for Children. VFC is a group of child advocate-attorneys paired who provide legal and social advocacy in court and in the community to ensure children in the foster care system are receiving the educational, mental and physical health services they need.

“We are all mothers, and children are close to heart because we have them,” Harrison said. “There are so many in foster care who need that nurturing and support.”

After the party on Friday and the afterparty on Saturday, it won’t be business as usual for the Halo Salon & Spa. They will continue the growth process with an expansion that will give them a much-needed two-week vacation.

“Fashion, art, music and diversity – that’s what we want,” Lynn said. “We want a diverse event – to really do something and get everybody involved and influence them, making sure that they are on the move and stay on the move.”
