Meaghan Chrystal Roberts exchanged marriage vows with rising entertainment mogul Je’Caryous Johnson in an outdoor evening ceremony in the Weatherly Garden at the Four Seasons Los Angeles in Beverly Hills on Saturday, November 15. Nearly 300 guests came from across the country for the weekend wedding celebration that concluded with a “Happily Ever After” bridal brunch Sunday in the Weatherly Garden.
Meaghan, 30, earned her Bachelor of Arts, Master’s and Juris Doctor
degrees at Pepperdine University in Malibu, California. She is an
entertainment attorney licensed to practice law in California and has
developed a seven-week program called Sticks and Stones to improve
communication between parents and their children.
She is the daughter of Michael Roberts and Jeanne Gore Roberts of St. Louis. Mr. Roberts is a hotelier, real estate developer, broadcast entrepreneur and Chairman/CEO of The Roberts Companies.
A Houston native, Johnson, 37, attended the University of Houston before becoming a highly sought-after playwright, producer, director and CEO of Je’Caryous Johnson Entertainment in Beverly Hills. His plays have grossed over $85 million, and he is also the author of several books.
He is the son of Manon Jones of Houston, Texas and Frank McClain of Dallas, Texas.
Rev. Joseph Cazer, the bride’s uncle, performed the ceremony under an
acrylic pergola dripping with purple, pink and white orchids, roses and
hydrangea. He wore a robe that belonged to his late father-in-law, Rev.
Herman Gore.
Meaghan wore a stunning Nell Gown from Vera Wang’s Fall 2014 Pink Collection.
The couple exchanged traditional vows and their own personal vows. The groom said, “I knew Meaghan was the one when I looked in her eyes and saw perfection in her and the potential for improvement in myself.”
The guests burst out in laughter when he said, “I promise to love her even if she watches ratchet reality TV shows, chows down on Chinese food and listens to rap music.”
Rev. Cazer placed their handwritten vows in a locked box, which the couple will open on their 10th anniversary and recite to each
other again.
The couple took communion and then lit a unity candle as national recording artist Leela James sang a solo.
After the wedding party and the newlyweds were introduced by the bride’s cousin Steven Roberts Jr., Brian McKnight serenaded the newlyweds with “Never Felt This Way” during their first dance on the white marbleized dance floor that bore their first names in huge lettering.
A Who’s Who of Black Hollywood witnessed the couple exchange vows,
including Tichina Arnold, Essence Atkins, Richard Roundtree, Vivica A.
Fox, Leon, Jennifer Williams, and TV’s Judge Glenda Hatchett, who attended with her son Christopher Johnson, Esq.
The bride’s friends and family from St. Louis and other cities who
