Valentine's Day Vixen

Love is in the air, and for some this means a lot of pressure to make the “V Day” a day to remember. For most women and some men, Valentine’s Day can make or break a relationship, if the opposite party doesn’t come correct. One has to worry about getting the right gift, picking the right restaurant or planning the perfect getaway. For women, we have the burden of becoming uber sexy without deviating too far from our regular style, so we won’t come off like we’re playing dress-up.

And most men feel like if they put forth the effort of planning a romantic day, the woman better look the part. Not to worry, we have some tips to making your Valentine’s Day very special.

Dress the part

The most important part of the Valentine’s Day swag is definitely the outfit. Women shouldn’t feel like they have to reinvent themselves for the day, but you do have to put in a little extra to get your mate in the mood for love. If you happen to be more of a “no fuss,” jeans, T-shirt, sneakers type of chick, try opting for a loose-fitting dress with an “A-line” silhouette. This provides an upgrade from the usual causal style, but it still keeps you in your comfort zone, and adding to one’s sexy instead of reinventing it.

If one is more maintenance-friendly, then there might be an issue of having too many style options to choose from. Try scaling back a little bit, and go for a more understated sexy look. Instead of wearing the usual jersey knit bodycon dress, switch it up to a silhouette with an empire waist or even a tailored pant/jacket combo. Both are still sexy, but will give the Valentine some new flavor.

Under the wear

Feeling sexy for your Valentine starts with the undergarments. Sexy lingerie is a must-have to set the mood for the romantic day.

So, I know many women have a love/hate relationship with lingerie. It looks gorgeous when it’s on the rack, but not the same when we actually put it on. It’s okay! Most women make the mistake thinking that they can only shop at Victoria’s Secret to find sexy undergarments to rock for “V Day.” And if you are a curvy queen or have a more edgy style, you know this is so not true. I recommend trying out specialty lingerie boutiques, either locally or online.

Also, don’t feel the pressure of having to look like a centerfold, and try having fun with lingerie options. Going for pieces that can also be worn out and about makes you feel more confident in your skin when it’s time for the night to end. Plus, nine times out of 10, your mate already likes any extra “love” you have to offer, so embrace the body you’re in.

Make up/ hair down

I recommend not overthinking the hair and makeup process. If you are a “naturalista,” don’t compromise your curls by straightening your hair. Opt out for wearing an up-do or add hair accessories to compliment the kinks. Going for more of a tousled look is always a better option. Not only does it give you flexibility from day to night, but it also amps up the sex appeal to any ensemble.

Valentine’s Day is also known as “Smokey Eye Day.” The smoky eye can be done in any color combination. It offers the perfect alluring effect to any face, and it adds instant sexiness to any outfit. If you opt for the smoky eye look, I recommend keeping the rest of the face pretty neutral. Like your outfit, don’t overdo the makeup. Stick to what you know, but just pump it up a notch. Try adding a lash to your smoky eye, but keep the lips and cheeks neutral.
