My sister the advice diva Gwendolyn Baines got this question this week:
“I have been married to my husband for 12 years. Every year at Christmas he goes to visit the children of his first wife. It is not an all-day thing. He delivers their presents and stays for dinner. His mother is 78, and several times I have invited her to have Christmas dinner at our house. But each year she chooses to have dinner with her grandchildren by the first wife. I have not been bothered with this until now. After all, she does spend New Year’s Day with us. He is here when the children awake. We have family breakfast, and he is here late evening. However, my thinking shifted when a female co-worker told me that she felt we were being neglected. Do you think I should worry about him being around his first wife?”
