It seems that half the folks who responded to this week’s stlamerican.com online poll think that fuzzhead Don King is “Good for St. Louis, Good for Boxing.”A quarter of those voting say King is “A Crook.” About 18 percent say King is “Good for Boxing, but ripping off St. Louis” and 7 percent say King is both “bad for boxing and St. Louis.”
The colorful King put on his usual show when announcing the Sept. 30 card of championship fights to be held at the Savvis Center. As King says, “Only in America,” and he proved it by getting Mayor Slay and some aldermen to waive the tax bill for the fight card. King could have stowed the glad-handing for President Bush and his handling of the hurricane, though. While he should be happy to save almost $500,000 in taxes, if King knew how most brothers and sisters feel about the city’s mayor he would save some of his over-the-top rump kissin’ of Slay, as well.
