I haven’t talked about the single life in awhile, but after a couple of dates with a certain brother, a sister has something to say. I actually know the brother from back in the day and hadn’t seen him in years. We bumped into each other, exchanged numbers and decided to meet for dinner. I offered to treat, as I think sisters should sometimes do. But do you think that kept a brother from having a sister waiting for more than 30 minutes? No.
Anyway, I left and called on his cellphone and told him I don’t like to be kept waiting, and if there’s going to be a wait I’d like to be informed. You know – a simple phone call.
We then met 15 minutes later at another spot. Things were fine, and we had a good time. At the end of the night, he said the treat would be on him next time and the time after that.
Well, the first time he said he left his credit card in his other pants. The next time, he said he was over his budget. Now, both could be true, but I DON’T THINK SO.
I told him if he wants to go out again, he’s going to have to call me in advance so we can make sure his ducks are in a row. He said I’m calling him a dinner pimp. Well, if the gaudy shoes fit …
The moral of this singles story is that we have to pay attention to signs. Look for them early, even as soon as a first encounter or date, so we don’t end up wasting an investment of time and emotions.
And, brothers, if you’re broke, say so, so you don’t end looking stupid and broke.
