Jacqueline Langford Ingram, 70, the widow of the late soul legend Luther Ingram, died of congestive heart failure Tuesday, August 26, at St. Louis University Hospital. Luther Ingram was best known for his 1972 recording of ‘If Loving you is Wrong, I Don’t Want To Be Right”. He died March 19, 2007.
Affectionately known as Jackie, she was married to Luther Ingram in 1962. Their son, Eric Luther Ingram, said she actually died of a broken heart. Luther Ingram was ill for several years before he passed and Eric said his mother devoted countless hours caring for him. ‘She never really complained and always had a smile on her face’ he said. .
“She will be missed terribly and mourned deeply. Her passing leaves a void that can never be filled, as we shall never see the likes of her again”.
Jacqueline Ingram attended public schools in East St. Louis and received and BS degree from Columbia College in St. Louis. She retired from the Department of Defense, AVSCOM in 1996. After retirement, she tutored children with Catholic Urban Programs in E. St. Louis.
In addition to Eric, she leaves a son from a previous marriage, Kenneth Jerald Knight, and many relatives and friends.
Her funeral was yesterday (Sept. 3) in East St. Louis, IL.
