St. Louis became the latest stop on Minister Louis Farrakhan’s “Justice or Else!” national tour on Friday, July 17, promoting the 20th anniversary of the Million Man March at New Sunny Mount Missionary Baptist Church, 4700 W. Florissant Ave.
Farrakhan invited black families to return to Washington, D.C. on October 10 to make demands on the U.S. government regarding justice for the African-American community.
Before a packed house, Farrakhan urged participants to refrain from Christmas spending as a means of sending an economic message to American merchants that blacks will not be taken for granted without economic consequences.
Farrakhan also visited Ferguson during his stay in St. Louis to pay his respects to the family of Michael Brown Jr., who were also on stage during his speech.
Activists Anthony Shahid and Zaki Baruti – frontline responders in Ferguson and at many previous police-involved shootings – were also recognized by the minister for their dedication to the advancement of the black struggle in St. Louis.
“I’ve traveled to most of the cities with the minister on his ‘Justice or Else!’ tour, and the spirit in St. Louis was the highest so far in the country,” said Minister Akbar Muhammad, international representative of the Nation of Islam. “The minister said the people’s response was exceptional.”
