Last Monday Circuit Judge Jimmie Edwards waited with Alderman Marlene Davis, his wife Stacy Edwards and other supporters on the steps of the Innovative Concept Academy that he co-founded during a taping of the Today show that aired December 21. They waited on the arrival of a Wal-Mart truck with products for the school valued at $100,000. The judge was recently selected by People magazine as one of the 2011 Heroes of the Year.

Parents, children and staff recently enjoyed Open House festivities at the new Southern Illinois University Edwardsville Head Start/Early Head Start Center, located at 150 Edgar St. in Cahokia, IL. The new Cahokia Head Start Center officially opened for business on November 28. The pre-school will provide services to 216 children and families. SIUE officials who attended the grand opening included: Dr. Ann Boyle, provost and vice Chancellor; Phyleccia Reed Cole, associate general counsel, Office of General Council; and Dr. Venessa Brown, executive director, SIUE East St. Louis Center.
