St. Louis Fire Captain Abe Pruitt and firefighter Cicily Tucker from Eng. Co. 1 are both members of The Firefighters Institute for Racial Equality (F.I.R.E.) who gave away bags of food during the annual Capt. Derrick Martin Food Drive. The event is named after Capt. Martin who died in the line of duty.

President Barack Obama shows military officials the White House Christmas Tree in the Blue Room following a meeting, Dec. 1, 2011. The 18-foot, 6-inch balsam fir is decorated with holiday cards created by military children and ornaments featuring medals, badges, and patches from all of the military branches.

St. Louis University has hired LaShone Gibson, MIS, as the associate dean of global relations and a faculty member in the School for Professional Studies organizational studies program. In this role she will oversee external academic partnerships and national and international business development.Â

The University of Missouri-St. Louis held its Arts and Sciences graduation ceremonies at the Mark Twain Building. One of the graduates congradulated by UMSL Chancellor Thomas George was 25-year-old Jelani Murshid-Jackson who has cerebral palsey. Jelani is congratulated by UMSL Chancellor Thomas George with a bachelor’s degree in Liberal Studies with three minors: Social Work, Sociology, and Communications. He was also a 2011 member of the Dean’s List.Â
