  • The St. Louis College of Pharmacy announced a change to its Doctor of Pharmacy program. To enhance the current curriculum and prepare students for the expanding role of pharmacists in patient care and to communities, the Board of Trustees approved a plan to expand the program from six to seven years, beginning in the 2014 academic year. This new structure will also allow for students to achieve a Bachelor of Science degree after four academic years.

  • Normandy School District’s Board of Education and Superintendent Dr. Stanton E. Lawrence received the Missouri School Boards’ Association’s (MSBA) 2012 Leadership Team Award. They were presented with the award on Friday, June 15 during MSBA’s annual Leadership Summit in Columbia. Members of the board are Sheila Williams, William Humphrey, Nancy Hartman, Dr. Edward Haynie, Joyce McRath, Herbert Clifton and Jeanette Pulliam.

    “This school board has evolved considerably over the past couple of years, and some long-serving and dedicated members have left the school board,” said current board member and former president Joyce McRath.

    “Building consensus around the vision and beliefs of our new organization has enabled us to grow into a strong team of eight where mutual respect and collective effort are the values we’ve chosen to embrace.”

    Normandy School District was one of 11 school districts in the state of Missouri which received the award based on the outstanding commitment to ongoing professional development, regional and statewide leadership, and active participation in legislative advocacy for public schools by members of the school board and a district’s superintendent.

  • Susan Taylor, editor in chief emeritus of Essence Magazine (right), joins Bishop Geoffrey V. Dudley Sr., senior pastor of New Life in Christ Interdenominational Church in O’Fallon, Ill. during the church’s annual Education Sunday Service that was held on June 10. Eighty graduates and transitioning students were honored during the event. The church also presented seven scholarships totalling $21,000 to graduating seniors from the Metro Easy. Taylor is also founded the National Cares Mentoring Movement. New Life is part of the initiative through its Metro East Mentoring Cares Unit.

  • New Life in Christ Interdenominational Church in O’Fallon, Ill. honored 80 graduates and transitioning students during its annual Education Sunday services that were held on Sunday, June 10. Susan Taylor, editor & chief emeritus of Essence Magazine was the guest speaker. The church also awarded $20,000 in scholarships to seven Metro East graduating seniors. The group, pictured above enjoying the service, are Joel M.
