A new low-cost health care program at Grace Hill Health Centers, Inc., called Gateway to Better Health is giving access to quality healthcare to low-income adults ages 19 – 64 for as little as $0.50 to $3 per medical visit.
Administered through the St. Louis Regional Health Commission, the 18-month “Gateway To Better Health Demonstration Project” is a pilot program designed to provide low-cost healthcare coverage to uninsured St. Louis City and County residents who meet eligibility requirements. Eligible adults can receive reduced rates for generic prescription drugs, medical and dental services without paying an enrollment fee or monthly premiums. Grace Hill has been enrolling eligible individuals into the project since November, but the program guidelines stipulated that it could only be offered to existing patients of the healthcare organization. As of April 15, the program has been allowed to open to all adult area residents who meet eligibility guidelines.
“At a time when financial resources are limited, this is a great program for low-income St. Louisans who do not have health insurance to access quality health care,” said Yvonne Buhlinger, the centers’ vice president of Community Health Services. “Very few health care plans provide coverage with co-pays as low as fifty cents per visit. We encourage everyone who qualifies to enroll now and take advantage of this opportunity, while we have enrollment slots available, as they are limited.”
To enroll, applicants must be without health insurance coverage, provide ID and proof of income for the past 30 days; be a legal U.S. resident for at least five years and/or meet applicable legal status requirements; and meet the annual income eligibility. Income eligibility for a family of four is less than $30,658 a year. For an individual, annual income eligibility is less than $14,857.
