The Southside Wellness Center recently held its 26th annual “Bringing It Together” celebration to honor older Americans and their contributions to society at the pavilion in the Muny Opera in Forest Park.
“Bringing It Together” gave seniors an opportunity to enjoy interacting with fellow older Americans, while listening to music and dancing to the tunes of Louis Armstrong, Ray Charles, Fats Domino, Duke Ellington and Harry James played by emcee Bernie Hayes.
The center presented awards to six community leaders: Achievement in Business – Donald M. Suggs, publisher of the St. Louis American; Achievement in the Community – Betty Sanguinette, executive coordinator (retired), Bevo 2001 Center; Achievement in Entertainment – Lou “Fatha” Thimes, legendary radio DJ; Achievement in Civics – Judge Evelyn Baker, circuit judge, 22nd Judicial District, Division 21; Achievement in Health – Linda Sherwin, president, Arthritis Foundation-Eastern Missouri Chapter; and Achievement in Longevity – Rosa Lee McGee, a 103-year-old volunteer, Jamestown Senior Citizens Center.
