The Urban League of Metropolitan St. Louis will host its 88th Annual Dinner on Monday, March 6 at 7 p.m. in the Renaissance Grand Hotel Majestic Ballroom. Dr. Michael Battle, president of the Interdenominational Theological Center and native St. Louisan, is slated to deliver the keynote address.
Dr. Battle has received numerous awards and honors, including the Leadership Award from the National Association of Student Affairs Professionals; the Martin Luther King Memorial Speakers Award from Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity; the Echoes of Excellence Award for Community Service; and the National Conference of Christians and Jews Humanitarian Award.
Dr. Battle has published widely on topics related to ecumenism and the black church, including The African American Church at Work and The History of the Hampton University Ministers’ Conference: An Experience in Interdenomination Cooperation.
“His informative and inspirational speaking style and his strong record of accomplishments match perfectly with the goals and mission of the Urban League,” said James H. Buford, president and CEO of the Urban League of Metropolitan St. Louis.
The Urban League also will present Awards of Merit to Harris-Stowe State University, Big Brothers Big Sisters of Eastern Missouri and Melanie DiLeo, executive vice president of Community Relations for Citigroup and Chairperson of Heat Up St. Louis. Norman R. Seay, president of the Federation of Block Units, will receive the Chairman’s Award from Urban League Board Chair Robert Wallace.
Buford also will present a report on the Urban League’s new programs, goals and successes for 2005-06.
