Thousands of area seniors, disabled people and needy households with small children are still having difficulties in paying their electric, natural gas, propane and home heating oil bills. On Friday, February 17, during the breakfast hour, about 400 civic, business, and political leaders served as volunteer greeters at the more than 60 Missouri and Illinois Hardee’s restaurants. Hardee’s sold its Sausage Egg Biscuit sandwich for $1, and volunteers collected additional donations. All proceeds went to Heat-Up St. Louis, a regional energy assistance charity. Because of the tremendous demand for energy assistance this year, Hardee’s also provided canisters for in-store collections through 2 p.m. that day only. Larger tax-deductible donations may be sent to Heat-Up St. Louis, c/o UMB Bank, P.O. Box 868, St. Louis, MO 63188, dropped-off to a UMB teller or via www.heatupstlouis.org.
