Provident received a $5,000 grant from the Rotary Club of St. Louis to purchase computer software that will help improve the reading, match and language art skills of youth who use tutoring and academic support programs at its Shreve Neighborhood Center.
The software, a computer-based instructional curriculum for students K-12, will support an already successful after-school tutoring at the center for youth from the O’Fallon and Penrose neighborhoods in North St. Louis. Students receive tutoring three times a week at the center, located at 4008 Shreve Avenue.
Staff at the center will use the curriculum to evaluate students. The software will assist teachers in using the right instructional strategies to help students improve their skills, grades and MAP test scores. About 300 students will use the software.
The Rotary Club of St. Louis supports community service projects in the city of St. Louis that provide aid and services to the less fortunate, particularly young people. The club has more than 200 members.
