St. Louis Board of Aldermen President Megan Green has introduced legislation to tie data centers’ annual business license fees to their power usage rather than the number of employees.
Data centers currently pay business license fees generally totaling less than $5,000 annually.
Revenue from the new fee would fund residential energy efficiency projects, including rooftop solar panels, battery storage and improvements to the power grid.
If approved by the Board of Aldermen and signed by the mayor, the proposal would go before city voters April 6.
