In “A Civil Rights Game is not enough,” there was no report on the percentage of African American baseball players that used to be in the game vs. current numbers, or the percentages of Caucasians, Latinos, Asians, etc. It’s not just a decline in African Americans in Major League Baseball, but possibly a decline in all Americans.
My husband and I moved from Arizona to St. Louis a little over a year ago, and I am shocked and disturbed how segregated this state is. I believe that we should all work together and stop pointing fingers and work towards a common goal, which is to preserve the positive cultural aspects of St. Louis and to make a stronger community for the future.
We should start more programs to involve the African-American community in baseball. Start the children in little league programs. If the programs don’t currently offer assistance programs to families who can’t afford it, let’s start a program!
