It is shameful and disgraceful that the Edwardsville Chapter of the NAACP would allow itself to be used to castigate some young African Americans for a fight between students at the Edwardsville High School. While no one should condone students fighting, we believe Paul Pitts, president of the Edwardsville chapter of the NAACP, improperly deviated from the long-established mandate of the NAACP, which is to help black people, not hurt them. How can any responsible black leader engage in the unnecessary vilification of black children? To call a news conference to denounce black children is offensive and vile.
