Authorities today arrested a suspect in the killing of the night manager of a motel in Bridgeton.
Henry L. Carmical, 35, a former local resident now believed to be homeless, was arrested today and charged with second degree murder for the death of a 55-year-old resident of the Economy Inn & Suites motel. Bond was set at $250,000.
About 10:20 p.m., police found his corpse in a guest room. “I’d say he had been bludgeoned,” Bridgeton Capt. Bob Wacker said this morning. “We didn’t find any weapon, and the room showed signs of a struggle.”
But Wacker said an autopsy on the body of Martin Taveggia, 55, would pin down the precise cause of death.
The victim was the night manager of the Economy Inn & Suites, at 12433 St. Charles Rock Road and lived on the premises. The section in which the corpse was found was only lightly occupied Monday night, Wacker said.
