Missouri residents applying for or renewing benefits through the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, or SNAP, now must provide more documents to verify some household expenses and financial resources.
Requirements for the food assistance program, which took effect Oct. 1, include proof of certain housing and dependent care costs and money in bank accounts. Documents can include leases, rent receipts, utility bills, child care receipts and bank statements.
The rules apply to new applications, renewals and requests to add someone to a household. Current SNAP recipients do not need to take immediate action but must provide the information when they renew their benefits.
When proof is required, recipients have 10 days to respond. If they do not document an eligible expense, the state will calculate benefits without using that expense as a deduction.
