The Missouri History Museum will become the St. Louis History Museum next year, following a unanimous vote by the Missouri Historical Society Board of Trustees.
The board approved the change Wednesday, with the new name scheduled to take effect in fall 2027.
Missouri Historical Society officials said the change is intended to more clearly identify the museum with the history of St. Louis and the surrounding region.
“St. Louis has always been at the heart of who we are and what we do,” said Dr. Jody Sowell, president and CEO of the Missouri Historical Society. “Becoming the St. Louis History Museum makes that connection even clearer and better reflects the role we play in sharing the stories of this community with the people who live here and those who come to experience St. Louis.”
