James “Jimmy” McCorkle was born to Charles and Alberta McCorkle on May 23, 1923 in Sunflower, MS. He was the youngest of two children. James departed this life on December 20, 2008 after a short illness. He lived to be 85.

Jimmy received his early education in Pinewood, MS. Upon moving to St. Louis, he attended Sumner High School. He joined the U.S. Navy in 1943 and was awarded an honorable discharge in 1946 with the rank of Seamen First Class.

Jimmy married his true love Alice Sirlemon McDaniel in 1946 and nurtured their love for 62 years. Jimmy loved sports, but basketball was his favorite.

He leaves to cherish his memory his loving wife of 62 years, Alice Sirlemon; one brother, John; sisters-in-law, Myrtle and Erma McDaniel; three children that they raised as their own, Little Curtis, Alfred and Yvonne; eight nieces, Flossie, Donna, Carolyn, Marquazette, Vivian, Carol, Constance and Vesta; three nephews, John Jr., George and Casey; two great-nieces and cousins that extend four generations and friends.
