Mr. Larry Beckham, Sr. was born on July 11, 1949 in St. Louis to the union of Lawrence Beckham and Chatlee Shelley. (Lawrence preceded him death). Early in Larry’s childhood Chatlee later married Richard Williams who then became his loving father.
Larry attended Field Elementary School and graduated from Sumner High School.
On June 25, 1966 Larry Beckham and Sheila Whitfield were joined in Holy Matrimony. From this union there were three children, Monica, Larry Jr. and Tawana.
Larry was a caring son, husband, father, brother and friend. And he really loved his grandchildren. He always managed to keep people full of happiness and laughter. He was known for his big heart and unique smile.
Larry accepted Christ in his life in 1979 at Grace Temple Church under the leadership of Pastor George Banks Jr. Larry was later baptized in 1980 in Detroit, Michigan under Bishop Bonner.
He passed away suddenly and unexpectedly on Thursday, November 3, 2005.
Those who remain to mourn his loss: his loving wife, Sheila Beckham; his parents Richard and Chattel Williams; his children, Monica Holmes, Larry Beckham Jr., Taiwan Beckham; one son-in-law, Louise Holmes; one brother, Donald Beckham; two grandchildren, Ciarrah and Tiarrah; one sister-in-law, Portia (Charles); one uncle, Alonzo; aunts Allie B., Minerva, Mary Ann, and Lillian; two aunts-in-law, Delilah and Lizzie; one uncle-in-law, Hakin; eight nephews and eight nieces; and a host of other relatives and friends, including three very special cousins that were like his little sisters and dear to his heart, Debra, Amanda, and Belinda.
