The Reverend Charlie Dooley, father of St. Louis County Executive Charlie A. Dooley, died on Friday, February 4. He was 79 years old.
Reverend Dooley was born in Macon, MS to Charlie and Mary Jane Dooley in 1925. During World War II he served three years in the Navy and was honorably discharged. He joined the McDonnell Douglas Company (now Boeing) in 1957 and never missed a day of work in his 30 years at the company. He served as pastor of the Revelation Missionary Baptist Church from 1966 until his retirement last year.
Reverend Dooley and his wife of 58 years, Lonnie Merl Dooley, had seven children and adopted two daughters. He is survived by his wife, his sisters Lula Dale, Betty Wright, Estella Hands and his brother Louis Tillman. In addition to his son and his wife Sandra Dooley, he is also survived by daughters Leela Dooley-Smith, Charlotte Kiner, Jeanne Warren (Mark), Mary A. Tippet and sons, Stanley Dooley (Sheila) and Timothy Dooley, as well as grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
There will be a visitation on Thursday, February 10 at the Wade Funeral Home, 4828 Natural Bridge, from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. The funeral service will be held at the Mt. Beulah Missionary Baptist Church, 7823 Racine Ave., on Friday, February 11 beginning at 10:30 a.m. Burial will follow at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery and the family will thereafter receive friends at the Mt. Beulah Missionary Baptist Church.
