Congressman Clay represented the St. Louis area well during the House of Representative’s hearings on steroids last Thursday.
The hero of St. Louis, Mark McGwire, did more to embarrass the city and St. Louis Cardinals than any player in the franchise’s history, and this includes Garry Templeton. Clay grilled McGwire, but also seemed to offer him every chance to clear his name of steroid abuse rumors. McGwire refused to say much of anything.
Clay told the St. Louis American, “I’m disappointed that Mark McGwire wasted an opportunity to set the record straight. He owes that to the millions of Cardinal fans who supported him.”
