State Rep. Maria Chappelle-Nadal read the EYE last week and noticed we wondered why she is backing Rodney Burchfield for alderman in the 17th Ward when her constituents are in the county. “I back progressive candidates,” she explained in a fax.
“Howard Dean set an example for us to support those who believe in a progressive, proactive agenda, regardless of where their districts lie or what it seems that we can get in return for such support.” She added that two other state representatives, Ted Hoskins and Yaphett El-Amin, “neither of whom have overlapping districts or any reason to feel indebted” to the candidate, had also pledged their support of Burchfield.
