President Bush has said he stands for now behind HUD Secretary Alphonso Jackson, who has been rightly under fire for telling a group of minority business owners in Dallas that he stopped a potential newspaper advertising contractor from getting work from HUD because the publisher told him he didn’t like the president. Jackson, who spent many years in St. Louis and has close ties here, having shown support for many local projects, has made a public apology. A formal probe of charges has been announced in response to complaints, mostly from Democrats.
