State Rep. Connie Johnson objected to the same item because she felt it associated her with the school choice/voucher effort. She made it clear that she was not present at a Feb. 20, 2006 dinner for the Missouri Legislative Black Caucus hosted by Cheryl Dozier. She listed some other times she was dined by Dozier. “As House Minority Whip, I often meet with people on both sides of the issues, whatever those issues may be,” she wrote.

“However, I do take issue with the context in which my name was mentioned with the co-sponsors of the legislation. I have already gone on record being in opposition to the bill (the tax credit/voucher proposal),” she wrote.

In a legislative update, Johnson also wrote, “I hope the legislature can come to some agreement with the schools without the districts losing funding. I will be watching the movement of this bill.”
