Congressman Russ Carnahan has been appointed to a leadership position as an assistant whip by the House of Representatives Democratic Whip Rep. Steny Hoyer (D-Md). There are between 30-40 assistant whips in the House Democratic Caucus, which includes 202 members. Carnahan is one of few freshmen appointed.

Carnahan n who took Dick Gephardt’s seat in the Third Congressional District n was also appointed to the influential House of Representatives Transportation & Infrastructure Committee.
