So John G. Roberts is President George W. Bush’s pick to join the U.S. Supreme Court. No surprise, but progressive black leaders don’t like it.
The Rev. Jesse Jackson: “With President Bush’s nomination of John G. Roberts, the Supreme Court would have one less woman and one less vote to protect women’s constitutional rights to self-determination. A Supreme Court with just one out of nine justices a female and no Hispanic does not look like America.”
Congressman Wm. Lacy Clay: “I am very disappointed that the president failed to nominate someone of the same temperament as Justice Sandra Day O’Conner. It’s critical that the Senate determine whether or not this nominee will defend the constitutionally protected rights of women and minorities.”
