In a repeat of previous attempts in 2003 and 2004, state Representative Sherman Parker has sponsored legislation that would give local police the power to confiscate weapons from domestic violence incidents. Parker’s legislation also prohibits those under a restraining order or convicted of domestic violence from owning firearms. “We have the ability to honor gun owner’s rights and punish those who use firearms to batter, intimidate or murder their loved ones,” said the legislator, who has received an “A” rating from the NRA for his advocacy of the rights of gun owners.
