In society today there seems to be so much chaos, corruption and violence. It appears that family values continue to deteriorate, the education system is in a state of disarray, politicians can’t be trusted and children are underdeveloped and misguided. We see fits of rage, violent attacks and unbelievable episodes that if they were not so troublesome and detrimental to the idea of human decency would be hilarious.
Yet in the light of all of this, which is only topped by the virtual ease at which some people are able to execute a thought to take another life, there is hope.
You may wonder how one envisions hope in what seems a hopeless situation. The word of God says in Isaiah 55:8, “For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways.” Thus when the natural man or woman (thinking their way) views the news, instantly fear arises, which of course is natural. But when the spiritual man or woman (whose hope and trust are in God) views the same news, although it may be troubling and disturbing, they quickly remember their trust in God who says in Isaiah 40:10 “Fear thou not; for I am with thee: be not dismayed.”Â
If you are able to believe nothing happens in this world apart from God’s divine permission, he will provide you peace, comfort, clarity and yes hope.
In Luke15:17 after leaving home to live life his way, the Prodigal Son concluded, “And when he came to himself, he said, How many hired servants of my father’s house have bread enough and to spare and I perish with hunger.” His condition made him willing to discord his thoughts and ways and believe again in his Father’s way. Releasing his way which ceased to work made him capable of believing.  Â
After we are willing to believe in Almighty God we must believe on the one God sent to help us (see John 6:29 ). Knowing Jesus, the Word, is how our faith will grow. In today’s society our faith is the only neutralizer to the fearful messages sent thru the news.
A few years ago I experienced the power of faith. The day my mother-in- law passed away I sat in the hospital talking with my wife and sister-in-law (while mother clung to life). My sister in law explained how that a few days earlier when mother appeared to be recovering they were discussing plans for when she came home from the hospital. As they talked, mother interjected this thought: “I might not come home …. but any way it goes it will be all right!” Hallelujah, praise God! Now that was faith in action. When you know, believe and trust God, you understand everything will be all right.
