All-American guard Bradley Beal of Chaminade College Prep has been selected to play in the Nike Hoop Summit, which is one of the world’s top postseason high school All-Star games. The 2011 Nike Hoop Summit will be held on April 9 in Portland, Oregon at the Rose Garden.

Beal was one of 10 players selected to play for the United States team that will play against a group of 10 international players who will comprise the World Select Team.

The 6’4″ Beal is a veteran of international competition, having already won two gold medals as a member of USA Basketball. He was the leading scorer for Team USA at both the 2009 FIBA 16U Americas Tournament in Argentina and the 2010 FIBA 17U World Championships in Hamburg, Germany. Beal was selected the Most Valuable Player of the FIBA 17U Worlds.

Other notable St. Louisans who have played in the Nike Hoop Summit include Loren Woods of Cardinal Ritter (1996), Larry Hughes of CBC (1997) and Darius Miles of East St. Louis (2000).

Coaches vs. Cancer

Bradley Beal and AAU teammate Roosevelt Jones of O’Fallon will be two of the featured players at next Thursday’s Coaches vs. Cancer Shootout, which will be held on Jan. 27 at the Chaifetz Arena. Chaminade and O’Fallon will square off in a battle of area powerhouse teams in the headline game at 8 p.m.

The Coaches vs. Cancer event is a seven-game shootout that features teams from all over the country. This is emerging as a wonderful annual basketball event which obviously benefits a cause that all of us can support because we all know somebody who suffers from this deadly disease.
