Incarnate Word Academy played their way into the national girls basketball record books on Saturday with a 68-51 victory over Blue Valley North at the Sophie Cunningham Classic in Columbia.

The Red Knights extended their winning streak to 139 games which surpasses the old record of 138, which was set by Central Plains (KS).

Incarnate Word’s record winning streak stretches back to 2020, which includes five consecutive state championships.

The Red Knights were led by junior point guard Addi Owen, who scored 20 points to earn Most Valuable Player honors for the game. The 5’4” guard made five of her six attempts from 3-point range. Senior guards Nevaeh Caffey and Peyton Hill added 10 points each.

Incarnate Word (8-0) will play a second game at the Sophie Cunningham Classic today when it will take on Chicago Whitney Young at 12:30 p.m.
