According to various media reports, former Dallas Cowboys defensive coordinator Rob Ryan will not be hired as the defensive play caller in St. Louis.

Earlier reports circulated that Ryan, who brashly said, “I’ll be out of work for like five minutes,” after being let go by the Cowboys, was tabbed as Jeff Fisher’s choice for the defensive coordinator position. However, neither Fisher nor the Rams made a formal announcement of the hiring.

Tuesday, Deadspin.com reported that after a second interview/meeting, Fisher determined that Ryan’s defensive philosophy did not match his own and the hire that never was, never shall be. Ryan is known for running a 3-4 scheme, while Fisher prefers the 4-3.

The non-hire puts the Rams back in limbo, as the team decided not to bring last year’s hire, Gregg Williams, on board after he was forced to miss a season due to the Bounty-gate scandal in New Orleans.  According to ESPN.com, Williams is set to become the Tennessee Titans’ assistant head coach once he is reinstated by the league.
