Spring is in the air and we all know what that means – the return of St. Louis Cardinals baseball. Fresh off an exhilarating World Series title, the Redbirds kick off the 2012 season tonight in Miami versus the Marlins.
Forget about the off-season lunacy for a moment. Sure there will be new faces in the field looking to prove themselves and old ones looking to improve. A new manager will bark out new orders in hopes of putting his own stamp on the club. But regardless of the big names who departed, the Cardinals belong to St. Louis.
Sitting under the Gateway Arch, in the greatest baseball town in America, Cardinals fans are celebrating the start of a new season. The names on the jerseys on the backs may have changed, but the hot dogs will be just as tasty, beers and sodas just as cold and next week when the Cards come home the cool downtown breeze will feel just a little better as it carries the swagger that comes with being champions.
So grab your jerseys and caps, plant yourself in front of a television and celebrate the new season. Baseball is back and we (still) are the champions!
The Cardinals season opener will be tonight (Wed., April 4) at 6:05 p.m. The game will be televised by ESPN.
