The 6’4″ sophomore jumping jack is one of the top sophomores in the St. Louis metropolitan area.

Behind Woodland’s play, the Crusaders are in the Final Four of the Missouri Class 3 state tournament in Columbia this weekend. Woodland scored 22 points to lead Lutheran North to a 50-43 victory over Fayette in the state quarterfinals in Hannibal. Woodland scored 18 of those points in the second half. He also had six rebounds and five steals against Fayette.

Woodland also came up big in the Crusaders’ 48-39 victory over Whitfield in the Class 3, District 5 championship game at McCluer South-Berkeley. Woodland scored a game-high 22 points, including a pair of resounding dunks to spark the Crusaders to the district title.

For the season, Woodland is averaging 13 points, four rebounds and two steals a game while shooting 56 percent from the field. He is the tallest starter on a small team that relies on its speed and quickness. Woodland is usually matched up against taller opponents, but he succeeds with his jumping ability and hard work around the basket.

Lutheran North (20-10) will play Versailles in the Class 3 state semifinals tonight at 6:05 p.m. at the Mizzou Arena.
