The 6’9″ senior center was one of the individual stars at last weekend’s Missouri vs. Illinois Riverwar All-Star Basketball Game.

Akins scored 14 points and grabbed 10 rebounds to lead the Missouri All-Stars past the Illinois All-Stars 90-83 last Saturday night at the University of Missouri-St. Louis.

A four-year starter at Jennings, Akins averaged 10 points and 8.7 rebounds this season to help the Warriors to a 19-10 record and a Class 4 district championship. Akins also blocked 86 shots to rank among the best in the area in that category. His height and long reach made it difficult for opposing teams to score in the lane against the Warriors for the past four seasons.

For his efforts, Akins was selected as the Suburban East Conference Player of the Year, an honor that he shared with Wellston’s Carl Stallings. He finished his career as one of the school’s all-time leaders in rebounds and blocked shots.

During his four years as a varsity starter, Akins has helped the Warriors to three Suburban East titles and two district championships.
