A talented two-sport athlete, Williams is enjoying a tremendous senior year for the Comanches. Williams has set the pace for Cahokia athletics in 2004 with his talent and leadership.

Williams will be one of the featured athletes from the Metro East area at this weekend’s Illinois Class AA state wrestling championships in Champaign. Williams, who wrestles in the 189-pound class, will take a 34-0 record into Assembly Hall this weekend. He finished fifth at the state championships as a junior at 171 pounds.

Williams advanced to the state meet by winning a sectional championship at Granite City last Saturday. Williams defeated Scott Penny of Granite City 5-2 in the sectional championship match.

In the IHSA Regional championships at Belleville West, Williams pinned Casey Monroe of Mascoutah in the finals. His performance also sparked the Comanches to their first regional team championship since 1991.

The success on the wrestling mats by Williams comes on the heels of the stellar football season he enjoyed during the fall as he led the Comanches to a 9-2 record and the championship of the South Seven Conference.

Williams rushed for 1,023 yards and 16 touchdowns while being the leading tackler on defense as he led Cahokia to a berth in the IHSA Class 5 playoffs.
