There were some sparkling performances at last weekend’s Phil Brusca/Connie Strobach Invitational at Ladue High School. Senior Alfred Larry of Jennings was a double winner in the 200- and 400-meter dashes. The defending Class 3 state champion in the 400, Larry circled the track in a winning time of 48.34 seconds.
Sophomore Charles Jones of Cardinal Ritter turned in one of the top performances of the meet when he won the 800-meter run in 1 minute 53.4 seconds. Senior Jehu Chesson of Ladue won the 300-meter intermediate hurdles in an impressive time of 37.7 seconds. Junior Aaron Mallet of McCluer North continued his excellent season by winning the 110-meter high hurdles in 14.4. He also finished second to Chesson in the 300-meter hurdles.
On the girls side, freshman JaiAnna Williams of Cardinal Ritter took home three first-place finishes. She won the 400 in a time of 57.7 seconds and the 800 in 2:20.1. She also anchored the Lions to a victory in the 4×400-meter relay. Kirstie Leslie of Washington dominated the field events in winning the long jump, triple jump and pole vault.
KU Relays
The St. Louis area represented well at the Kansas University Relays in Lawrence, KS. Tianna Valentine of Hazelwood East and Peyton Chaney of Nerinx Hall blistered the track in the 100-meter dash duel. Valentine won the race in 11.66 seconds while Chaney was second in 11.73. Whitney Adams of Francis Howell took home first in the 400 with a nice time of 55.28.
On the boys side, senior Darrion Dillard of McCluer won the triple jump with an effort of 47 feet 6 ÂĽ inches. Class 3 standouts Ezekiel Elliott of John Burroughs and Dapo Akinmoladum of Kansas City Grandview split their duel in the hurdles. Akinmoladum won the 110-meter high hurdles in 13.75 while Elliott came back to win the 300-meter intermediate hurdles in 38.6. Hazelwood Central’s quartet of Cole Davis, Sean Wills, Matt Quarells and Marc Franks won the 4×400-meter relay in a meet record time of 3 minutes 19.36 seconds.
Triple winner
Junior Nataliyah Friar of Wentzville Holt was a triple-winner at the Fort Zumwalt North Invitational last weekend. Friar won the long jump, triple jump and the 100-meter dash.
Super Suber
Senior Javonte Suber of Parkway North won the 800-meter run at the Fred Lyon Invitational at Parkway North in a time of 1:56.95. Suber also ran a leg on the Vikings’ first-place 4×400-meter relay team. Patrick Partee of Mehlville won the triple jump and 300-meter intermediate hurdles.
