Just because the St. Louis Rams have won there last eight games in a row on prime time television means something. It does not. As much as I would like to criticize the team for another embarrassing loss, I could not wonder what would you do if you were coach of this team. Who do you blame for the lackluster results of this football team? This time I’m looking for some feedback.

So anyone out there that reads this column I will be more than happy to share your thoughts about this team. Some people think that we are overreacting to this loss to the Green Bay Packers. I don’t consider this overreacting. I consider this to be venting. Come on now people. If you are reading this right now on your way to work, or at the metro link station, just talk to the person standing next you and say, “Neighbor, we got a bad team.”

Its one thing to have a beat down on a regional channel like Fox in St. Louis. It’s another thing to get whipped like a government mule on national television. You have to wonder, “Where is the pride?” The question is,” Is there a person in the locker room on defense that actually care?” Given the turnovers by the offense, which cannot be ignored, what do you say about the defense? Hell you can’t blame ex-Ram Sean Landeta for this one can you. By the way I think it was a bunch of bull to release Landeta after the Buffalo game. Who blames the coach for sitting out two of the leading tacklers on special teams for that game?

Anyway, I can only imagine what this week will be like at Rams Park. With a 5-6 record raise your hand if you want to see this team in the playoffs. To be completely honest with you, I don’t want to see this team in the playoffs. You know why? Because, in the end your heart will end up broken. Just like someone on a talk show trying to say thats my baby’s daddy. So I have heard. I can’t imagine coach Martz looking us (the media) in the eye and say that defensive coordinator Larry Marmie is still doing a great job. If his does, you now what Martz is doing. Thats right. He is hasslin the people.

The only player I see on defense hustling on every play as if its his last is defensive tackle Ryan Pickett. Even though he wasn’t in on all the plays. You could tell that he was giving a maximum effort out there. Its one thing for another team to flat out beat the hell out of you. It’s another thing to lay down and let it happen. I think that with Martz using Sean Landeta as a sacrificial lamb to send a message to the team, maybe he needs to send the blade a little closer. Granted, a punter’s job is to kick the ball high and long. However, if no one is there to make a play you look at the special teams coach. So, back to the defense. If you don’t have everyone playing at that “do or die” level you will be dominated.

Let’s take a closer look at this thing. This team was put together mainly by Mike Martz. Including the coaching staff. It make absolutely no sense that he continues to make rookie mistakes as a head coach and he is going into his fifth year as a head coach. Why wait until the middle of the year to do something about the specials teams? If you spent some time in Macomb, Ill on special teams you may not have this big of a problem. What about the fact that a lot the players that are on this roster drafted have yet to make it to a pro bowl? Why is it that we are not allowed access to the other coaches? What is there possibly to hide. The only time I remember a coach being available was linebacker coach John Vitt on draft day. By the way that was back in April almost a year ago.

So what will it take to get this team back on top again? Well first off its going to take getting some people in here to play defense with some passion and desire to get to that next level in the NFL. Have coaches that had at least a little bit of success somewhere. I don’t have a problem with Martz hiring a friend of his. At the same time if his friend defense has never ranked as high as 23 in the NFL. St. Louis we have a problem. I anxiously await to see what transpire in the off season. As of right now this team is a done deal. I hope I’m wrong. But unlike picking against the baseball Cardinals finishing third. I won’t have to worry about eating crow about the Rams. If so, boys, please prove me wrong. People let me know what you think about this team. By the way San Fran is on the way. With the way our beloved Rams are playing they’ll turn minute rice into Rice- a-Roni.
