St. Louisan Luther Burden III turned in a standout performance in the Chicago Bears’ 30‑24 victory over the New England Patriots Thursday night in Chicago.

The former East St. Louis and Cardinal Ritter star caught four passes for 130 yards and a touchdown — his best game of the season.

Burden made his first big play in the opening quarter with a 58‑yard catch on a crossing route, setting up a short touchdown run by D’Andre Swift. It was his longest reception of the year.

He added another highlight in the second quarter, taking a screen pass on third‑and‑17 and racing 24 yards for a touchdown that extended the Bears’ lead to 20‑7.

Burden’s effort earned him a game ball from head coach Ben Johnson in the locker room after the win.

Through seven games, Burden has 35 receptions for 491 yards and two touchdowns, averaging 14 yards per catch.
