Former Principia basketball star Quentin Coleman was selected to the USA Basketball U 18 team this week.
The University of Illinois recruit will compete for the USA team at the FIBA AmeriCup in Leon, Mexico from June 1-7. It will be Coleman’s debut with USA Basketball in international competition. He will join former St. Louis area men’s basketball stars Bradley Beal and Jayson Tatum, who also played in the USA Basketball system.
The USA Basketball selection was the latest accomplishment in what has been a tremendous calendar year for the 6’4″ Coleman. Last month, he was named the Most Valuable Player of the Iverson Classic, held in Hampton, Virginia. The All-Star game is named in honor of Hall of Famer Allen Iverson.
Coleman scored a game-high 31 points and grabbed 12 rebounds to lead his team to a victory. He also won the 3-point shooting contest before the game. Coleman also participated in the Jordan Brand Classic All-Star Game in April. As a senior, he was named the St. Louis American Player of the Year after leading Principia to the Class 3 state championship.
