Columbia, MO – Early Thursday morning, it was announced that Webster Groves sophomore basketball standout Scottie Adkinson was named the Gatorade Player of the Year in the state of Missouri.
Later that evening, Adkinson took the court at the Mizzou Arena in Columbia and showed why he received that award as he led the Statesmen to a 67-56 victory over Summit Christian in the Class 5 state championship game.
Chaminade finishes second in Class 6
The 6’3” guard was brilliant in the two Final Four games as he scored 30 points in a victory over Westminster Christian in the semifinals on Wednesday, then followed up with 29 points in the finals against a very game Summit Christian team from Kansas City.

Adkinson was nine of 16 from the field and 10 of 11 from the free throw line as he constantly attacked the basket with his athleticism and physical strength. He also had six rebounds and two assists in the game.
Adkinson received plenty of help from his teammates as three other Statesmen players scored in double figures. Junior guard Quincy Williams scored 11 points while making some very timely 3-pointers along the way. Senior guard Carl Whitehead Jr. had 10 points while 6’6” freshman forward Miles Simpson had 10 points and eight rebounds.
Summit Christian was led by senior guard Max Rieger, who scored 25 points.
The state championship was the sixth in the history of the Webster Groves program. The Statesmen won their first back in 1996, but they have been on a roll in the 21st century, winning state championships in 2008, 2017, 2018, 2022 and 2025.
Chaminade finishes second in Class 6
Chaminade College Prep finished as state runners-up in the Class 6 state tournament this week.
The Red Devils were defeated by Oak Park 68-60. Chaminade led by 13 points in the fourth quarter, but Oak Park stormed back to take the victory and that state title, which was a rematch of last year’s Class 6 state semifinals, which was won by Chaminade.
Oak Park was led by senior guard Zeek Brown, who scored 18 points. Guards Caleb Estes and Adam Tanner added 14 points each. Junior guard Jonny Jordan led Chaminade with 19 points.

It is good to see that Webster Groves is getting some much deserved recognition. The local television networks are not giving much coverage to the young talented duo of Scottie Adkinson and Miles Simpson.
