Former Indianapolis Colts QB Peyton Manning has chosen the Denver Broncos as his next destination according to ESPN.com.
ESPN’s Adam Shefter reported via Twitter that Manning called Broncos’ exec John Elway, Monday morning to inform him of his decision and to start contract negotiations with the club. Shefter also reported that Manning has informed the other NFL teams he was considering.
If healthy, Manning should provide a big boost to to the Broncos, whose stout defense helped propel them to the playoffs last season with an 8-8 record. Quarterback Tim Tebow also played a big role in the success but his bipolar play was hailed by some and criticized heavily by others. Manning will return the team to a more traditional passing offense. Once the deal is official, the Broncos will look to trade Tebow.
Manning had also entertained offers from the Dolphins, Titans and 49ers, amongst others. But by signing with Denver, he’ll inherit a playoff team without switching conferences.
