Adrien Broner has a problem. The World Boxing Council announced it has suspended the former two-division champion after a disrespectful, expletive-filled interview with Showtime’s Jim Gray after his victory over Carlos Molina Jr.
“I’m still Adrien ‘The Problem’ Broner – the ‘Can Man.’ Anybody can get it. Africans – I just beat the —- out of a Mexican!”
The juvenile tirade angered the crowd which featured a large contingent of Mexican-American and Hispanic fans. Many of those fans complained to the WBC, which is headquartered in Mexico.
After the bout, the WBC relased the following statement:
The World Boxing Council holds human equality as its banner and will not accept a former WBC champion to make racially offensive statements.
Since words have different meanings and can be interpreted in different ways , the WBC is issuing this open letter to Adrien Broner to either clarify what he meant with his words or to issue a public apology if those words were intended to be despective and offensive .
Adrien Broner is hereby suspended from participating in any WBC sanctioned Championship and will be excluded from the WBC Ratings until the time he makes a public apology satisfactorily to the public of the world.
As I stated in the most recent In the Clench, if there’s a World Comedy Council, I hope they will suspend Broner too since his cornball jokes have worked many ‘a nerves. I’m guessing there’s a crowd for his antics (maybe high school kids) considering he’s continuing full steam ahead with his tired jokes, insults and ignorant interviews.
Some say there’s no such thing as bad publicity. As ignorant as Broner often sounds, it gets people talking talking about him. That’s all he wants.
He already told TMZ that he loves all Mexicans. It seems the WBC will force him to make a formal apology though before he’s reinstated into its rankings. They might want to get that apology on paper though. With a mic in his hand, you never know what type of problems the ‘Can Man’ can cause.
